How much does it cost to rent to own a newer low-mileage car per week?

Newish rent-to-own starts from about R1 500 a week at EzAuto, and the exact weekly rental depends on the car's value and the rental deposit you put down — a larger deposit lowers the weekly amount. The rental includes comprehensive insurance, vehicle tracking, licence and registration and 24/7 roadside assistance, so there is no separate insurance premium to budget for.

How new is a "newish" car at EzAuto?

Newish means 2021 or newer — between 1 and 5 years old — with under 90 000 km on the clock. Every listing shows its exact year and mileage before you apply, and nothing anywhere on EzAuto is older than 8 years or over 125 000 km.

Can I rent to own a 7-seater or an SUV?

Yes. Alongside hatchbacks and sedans we stock 7-seater people carriers and compact SUVs in the newish band, and bakkies through our bakkie range. Stock changes daily, so the quickest way to see what is available in your value band is to get pre-approved and browse the live list.

Does the option to own still apply on newer cars?

Yes — the agreement works the same on newish stock as on the rest of the range. EzAuto owns the vehicle for the duration of the rental, and at the end of the 60-month term you can take up the purchase option for R5,000. It remains a rental agreement throughout, not vehicle finance.

Are newish cars available across South Africa?

Yes. Stock is searched nationwide and sorted from nearest to farthest, so you can rent to own a newer low-mileage car in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein and every other major centre, with collection or delivery arranged once you are approved.

Can I rent-to-own a brand-new car in South Africa?

EzAuto does not stock brand-new, zero-kilometre vehicles. What we do stock every day are newish cars — typically 1 to 5 years old with low mileage — on a rent-to-own agreement, which means the vehicle becomes yours at the end of the term instead of going back to a rental company.

How old are EzAuto's cars?

Our newish selection is 2021 or newer, so between 1 and 5 years on the road. Across the wider range we never list anything older than 8 years, and French makes are capped at 5 years.

Do you have low-mileage cars?

Yes. Cars in the newish band are under 90 000 km, and nothing on EzAuto exceeds 125 000 km. Every listing shows its exact mileage so you can compare before you apply.

Is rent-to-own cheaper than renting a new car?

Month for month a newish rent-to-own car is usually meaningfully cheaper than a long-term rental on an equivalent brand-new model, because you are not paying for the steepest year of depreciation. The bigger difference is what you hold at the end: with rent-to-own the car is yours.

Yes. A rental deposit is required and it starts from 10% of the vehicle value. The exact amount depends on the car you choose and your application outcome, and the conditions are set out in the signed rental agreement.

What do I need to qualify?

A minimum income of R14,000 per month, a valid South African driver's licence, and 3 months of bank statements (6 if you are self-employed). A poor credit record is not an automatic no — around 90% of applicants are approved.
