How does rent to own cars work?

You rent a quality used car from EzAuto on a monthly rental agreement and take up the option to own it at the end of the term. You apply online, EzAuto assesses affordability on your income instead of your credit record, you pay a rental deposit from 10% of the vehicle value, and the car is delivered — usually within 2 to 7 business days. Rentals start from R1,750 a week — billed monthly at about R7,583 a month — including insurance, tracking, roadside assistance and licence.

What is rent to own cars?

Rent to own cars is a rental agreement on a vehicle with an option to own it at the end of the term. It is not vehicle finance and not a loan, so only a soft credit check is done. You pay a fixed rental, debited monthly, for the use of the car and, at the end of the 60-month term, you can take up the purchase option for R5,000.

How much does it cost to rent to own a car in South Africa?

EzAuto rentals start from R1,750 a week — billed monthly at about R7,583 a month — and the exact amount depends on the vehicle you choose and the rental deposit you put down. The rental includes comprehensive insurance, vehicle tracking, licence and registration, and 24/7 roadside assistance. A rental deposit is required, typically 10%–50% of the vehicle value — a higher deposit lowers your monthly rental.

Who qualifies to rent to own a car?

You need a gross income from R14,000 a month, a valid South African ID and a valid driver's licence. We assess affordability rather than your credit record, so blacklisted and debt-review applicants can apply. Bring 3 months of bank statements if you are employed, or 6 months if you are self-employed.

Which cars can I rent to own?

Quality used cars from mainstream brands such as Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Kia, Suzuki, Nissan and Renault, plus low-mileage newer models. Stock is nationwide, so you can rent to own in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and every other major centre — you pick your car after you are approved.

How long does it take to get the car?

Get an initial outcome in 60 seconds. Follow-up feedback may take up to 24 hours, and most approved applicants are driving within 2–7 business days.

Do I own the car at the end of the rent-to-own term?

You have the option to. EzAuto owns the vehicle for the duration of the rental, and at the end of the 60-month term you can take up the purchase option for R5,000. It stays a rental agreement throughout — it is not vehicle finance and not a loan.

Can I rent to own a car with bad credit?

Yes. EzAuto approves around 90% of applicants because we assess what you can afford today rather than your credit record, so blacklisted and debt-review applicants can apply. You need a valid SA ID, a valid driver's licence, proof of income and a rental deposit from 10% of the vehicle value, confirmed on approval.

Can I get a rent-to-own car if I'm blacklisted?

Yes! EzAuto specialises in helping blacklisted South Africans get vehicles. We assess affordability based on your current income, not your credit history.

What documents do I need to apply?

You'll need a valid South African ID or passport, proof of residence, proof of income (3 months payslips if employed, or 6 months bank statements if self-employed), and a valid driver's licence.

How long does the approval process take?

Most applications are assessed within 24 hours, and you can drive away in your new vehicle within 2–7 business days of approval.

What's included in my rental payment?

Your rental payment includes the vehicle, comprehensive insurance, licence and registration, vehicle tracking, and 24/7 roadside assistance. Maintenance and servicing are your responsibility, and mileage is capped as per your rental agreement.

Which parts of South Africa do you cover?

All nine provinces. Every major centre has its own page with local pricing, delivery areas and requirements — open the city you drive in from the locations menu and apply there.

Is rent-to-own the same as a car loan?

No. Rent-to-own is a rental arrangement with an option to purchase at the end of the term. It is not a credit agreement, not a loan, and not an instalment sale.

Can I apply if I'm under debt review?

Yes. Rent-to-own is a rental arrangement, not a credit agreement, so it's generally accessible while under debt review. We recommend consulting your debt counsellor.

What is the minimum income required?

You need a minimum gross monthly income of R14,000. We assess affordability based on your income and expenses — not your credit history.

Can I return the vehicle early?

Early termination of the rental is governed by your rental agreement and may result in cancellation charges as outlined in the contract. Please contact our team to discuss your options.

Do I need a good credit score to qualify?

No. We focus on your current affordability and income, not your past credit history. This is what makes rent-to-own accessible for blacklisted individuals or anyone with credit challenges.

What are my payment options?

Your rental is billed monthly — one debit order per month. We quote in weekly terms because that is our pricing unit: rentals start from R1,750 a week (about R7,583 a month), depending on the vehicle you choose.

Who owns the car during the rental period?

EzAuto retains ownership of the vehicle throughout the rental term. At the end of 60 months, you have the option to purchase it for R5,000.

Can I get a car with no credit history?

Yes. Having no credit history is not a barrier. We assess affordability based on your current income, making rent-to-own ideal for first-time car seekers and young professionals.
