What does "pawn my car and still drive it" mean?

It's a short-term cash loan where you sign ownership of your paid-up vehicle over to a pawn lender as security, but keep driving it. You make monthly repayments (capital + interest + fees) and only get the car back in your name once the loan is fully settled. Miss payments and the lender keeps and sells the car.

How is rent-to-own different from pawning my car?

Rent-to-own gives you a different vehicle to drive on a fixed monthly rental, with an option to own it at the end of the term. You aren't risking a car you already own — and your rental includes insurance, tracking, roadside assist, and licence admin. Pawning your car is a cash loan against an asset you already own; rent-to-own is access to a vehicle plus a path to ownership.

Which is cheaper — pawn-and-drive or rent-to-own?

Pawn-and-drive looks cheap for the first month, but interest, admin and storage fees stack up quickly and the loan is usually short-term (3–6 months) with large balloon repayments. Rent-to-own is a fixed, all-inclusive monthly cost over a longer term, and at the end you have the option to own the car for a known amount. Total cost depends on your situation, but rent-to-own gives you predictability and protection.

I don't own a car yet — can I still pawn one?

No. Pawn-and-drive only works if you already own a paid-up vehicle. If you don't own a car, rent-to-own is the practical route — EzAuto assesses affordability (minimum gross income R14,000/month) rather than credit history.

Is rent-to-own available if I'm blacklisted or under debt review?

Yes. EzAuto's rent-to-own is a rental agreement, not a credit agreement under the National Credit Act, so it isn't reported to credit bureaus. We assess affordability based on 3 months of payslips (6 months bank statements if you're self-employed). Approval rate is around 90%.

Can I lose my car with rent-to-own?

If you stop paying, the vehicle can be repossessed — the same as any rental or finance arrangement. The key difference with rent-to-own is that you aren't risking a vehicle you already own. You're renting access to a different car.
