How much does a car cost per month on rent-to-own in South Africa?

Entry-level hatchbacks start from about R6,100 a month and mid-size sedans and compact SUVs run between R7,500 and R11,000 a month. The monthly rental is driven by the vehicle value and your rental deposit, which starts at 10%. Every rental includes insurance, tracking, licensing and roadside assistance, so there are no separate monthly bills for those.

Is the monthly amount fixed for the whole term?

Your monthly rental is fixed in the signed rental agreement for the term you choose. It is debited monthly, so you have one predictable amount each month rather than a weekly debit.

What do I need to earn to qualify?

A gross income of at least R14,000 a month, a valid South African ID and driver's licence, and three months of bank statements (six if you are self-employed). Approval is affordability-led with a soft credit check only, which does not affect your credit score.

Does the monthly cost include insurance and servicing?

Comprehensive insurance, tracking, licensing and roadside assistance are included in the monthly rental. Routine servicing and maintenance remain your responsibility during the term, as set out in the rental agreement.

Can I own the car at the end?

Yes. This is a rental agreement with an option to own at the end of the term. It is not a credit agreement, a loan or vehicle finance.
